The Once Humming Humvee Is Gone

When I heard the news several months back about a Chinese Company that will buy the Hummer vehicle brand of General Motors, I was like, okay at least its presence will continue. If I am a would be buyer, buying a supposed to be China made Humvee would then be fine. But it was not materialized and GM couldn't find any other company that could buy the Hummer brand. May 24, 2010 the brand is finally closed after 18 years of existence  and some point made a lead in terms of sales worldwide in some categories. The Hummer  by the way was founded in the year 1992.

While enjoying the cold weather in Dubai, strolling the neighborhood, I happened to see one Hummer Stretched Limo parked near to a hotel in Jumeirah. I took BB pix immediately and promised to myself to keep the pictures I took who knows, I will be telling my grandchildren that there was a vehicle called Hummer in my time and with pictures to back it up.

Admittedly, penniless like me also have that dream of owning a Hummer, but now it is gone. Current owners of  Hummers though are lucky enough to own some. The ones you see now are the last manufactured Hummers. Decades from now, if these owners will be able to keep their Hummers' form, then they'll be racking more millions then when these will be auctioned then as collector's item.

This is the same thing happened to the other famous vehicle brand Pontiac that stopped its manufacturing 5 months after Hummer's closing down. Both sad events from these two brands basically were blamed to the economic crisis that hit the world economy.

Did you know: that Hummer vehicles have been called into use during disaster situations? An organization, Hummer Owners Prepared for Emergencies (HOPE), was created by the Hummer Club and the American Red Cross. It trains volunteer Hummer owners with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid skills, as well as basic off-highway skills so that they may assist victims during a disaster situation. GM had paid the Red Cross $4 million to participate in the organization. Source: wikipedia.org
