It has been an ongoing “battle” between Research In Motion and the government of India. However, it seems the two may have come to some resolution. Before long, the Indian government will likely be able to snoop your BBM chat logs, with a solution “up and running soon.”

Although, a wiretap warrant will be needed in order to gain access to specific logs. A RIM spokesperson said, “We are holding talks with the government, but there has been no issue from our side regarding accessibility to BBM services ever since our server was installed in the country.”

The plan may not work as intended given the length of red-tape one must go through to gain access to the chat logs. A security agency would have to be granted permission to tap an individual’s BBM PIN from the Union Home Ministry, then send a request to the carrier in order to access the necessary data.
